Rejected (dot)XXX Domains Proposal

In recent news, ICANN.org rejected a proposal to introduce .xxx domain names... Theoritically, porn sites would register in the .xxx domain, rather than the more common .com domain to clear possible confusion.... So Sex.com, becomes Sex.xxx! I am glad that the proposed system was rejected...

There are adavantages to the proposed system, that is to give users more power on the websites they choose to visit... Which is something great, i dont object! But the truth is, such domain names will not put the "users" in control, but rather will put the "censors" in control, which is why introducing such domains, especially if they become manadatory is such a bad idea! Such domain names will only make it easy for the censors to block porn websites, and other objectionable materials.. Besides, guess far less than 0.001% of the visits are indeliberate....

And since when is making life easier for the censors a good idea?

i wish they accepted! its definately a decision for a better world. lets say it would not degrade the freedom of expression and choice. but it would limit within logical boundaries aiming to protect the innocense of children. it should not be made easy for anyone to access those cites!

if they would erase their existance, it would make life much better.

I agree Tala, censoring these sites couldn't possibly be a bad thing, seriously zeid, think about the children, if there's some way of protecting them, why not?

and in what ways are children harmed by porn? Personally, i believe everyone is responsible for their choices, and by everyone under-aged are included

you tell me , your 5 years old child in the same room while you are sleeping with you wife, what would he be like?

does it matter if it was on TV?
well simply, it would be shocking to realise that we are civilised animals.

the same thing goes for showing a twelve year old girl what giving birth is like!!

eventually she will know, the child will grow to know. spare them this kind of knowledge for the moment, they definately dont need it. not this way, there should be a better way to introduce it, not in on these savage sites! and don't tell him he knows to switch the channel as he/she sees something for the first time.

Sorry, but this is not something to be taken lightly!!

Who are you to decide if "they definately dont need it"?
You are not the one to decide! Even parents dont have the right to withhold information from their children (although most of them misuse their authorities)...

Hiding in denial is not the answer! I think, censoring information will hurt everyone more than any harm a porn site can possibly do...

Sorry to shock you but yes i do believe that children under 12 years definately do not need to know what is sex in its very naked truth.

when do children really start noticing the differences between sexes? when do they really start examining themselves and noticing attractions? children are not aware of their sexual organs, and it is not something easy to deal with. you should not wake their senses up before naturally its their time, they would not notice it before 12 or 13, they need sort of mentoring not consoring. bas 7aram to know before their time, i remember my childhood was all about school, cartoons, and Nintendo, exploring science and friends. i would not have understood it at the age of 10! you can't understand these things if your body didn't not fully develop. it would either scare , shock or obssess the viewer.
and i can tell you one more thing , the most beautiful thing about children is their innocense, their curiosity, their approach of life. you gradually widen it, you don't just shock it.

very true, i am against censoring too, i am against complete Banning . but what im telling you we need more categorisation or classification.

its not Hiding,no one is denying anthing, its something natural that is part of every human being. its postponing, "Timing" is the keyword

i agree no one should censor or Ban anything. i would lose my right in freedom if i accept to sensor anything.

their crap is imposed on me and has as equal right as me but what options do i have, its the freedom of expression, if i sensor them, one day i will find someone to censor me. since diversity is a feature of today's life. i would divert from it when i see it. i have the choice not to agree.

yeah True

i may not agree with you, but i would risk my life for yor right to say what you want (i dont know who said this but its a quote)

how did i violate that! i was expressing my thoughts :P

I agree with you about the classification thing.. I find it useful if it was intended for the user to decide what they want to see. But the thing is, the classification system will help the censors to block content (ie. banning content)... Thats what i was saying!

If you ever noticed on this blog, sometimes i put links and put a warning next to them that they contain profanity.. This is to protect users! The users can still visit objectionable sites if they want to, its just an extra warning, which is good.

But when blocking system is automated, and as simple as blocking certain domain names, this becomes easily misued by countries like saudi arabia, or other authorities that block contents!
Most porn sites currently have a warning page, that is when you enter it it tell you that you are about to view pornographic content which is i guess more than enough...

when do children really start noticing the differences between sexes? when do they really start examining themselves and noticing attractions?
I said not block content for people seeking it! I am not saying that you go tell the child everything you know about sex; but if they do ask, i strongly believe that it is unethical to give misguided information!

how did i violate that! i was expressing my thoughts :P
You didnt violate any commenting policy, but i was just saying that this blog doesnt stand for this point of view that you expressed :D
